SSL Certificates enable data encryption on the internet and allow data to be transmitted securely from a web server to a browser. With SSL, your website can use the https protocol and will display a padlock in end users web browsers to indicate the connection is secure.

SSL Certificates are an essential part of the internet. They not only encrypt communication between your computer and the server where a website is located, but they also provide verification that a site is what it claims to be.

There are 3 different levels of vetting that SSL Certificates are based upon. Domain Validated (DV) , Organization Validated (OV), and Extended Validation (EV). The major difference between the types of certificate relates to the information the Certificate Authority requires and validates in order to issue a certificate.

The higher levels of certificate require more information, and often is displayed in the browser bar. EV SSL for example turns the browser bar green and displays the organization name to visitors to generate more trust.

A Wildcard SSL certificate provides the same encryption and authentication features as other SSL certificates but can also be applied to an unlimited number of subdomains of a website. A Wildcard SSL certificate supports the root domain (example.com) as well as its subdomains.

EV, or Extended Validation, is the highest class of SSL available today and gives more credibility and trust to your website than other SSL Certificates. They include features such as the green address bar and display of your company name that have been proven to boost trust and consumer confidence.

If you have a digital business that manages your customers information, their data or any electronic transactions, it is essential to install an SSL to achieve encryption between the server communication and any browser program.

Additionally, do not forget that SSL helps improve your website ranking (SEO), and prevents browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and others from pointing out that your website is "not secure."

Over time, trust seal signs have been developed to ensure that when we visit a web page where we need to make transactions or send sensitive data, and that we can verify if we are on a secure web site.

The "https" prefix known as "security padlock" in the browser bar shows the seal when a site is encrypted or not. These signs guarantee your visitors that it is safe to make transactions, browse or buy in your domain.

The main objective of SSL certificates is to demonstrate the credibility of a domain on the Internet, for such cases there are different SSL types, some that only protect the information through encryption, and others that authenticate the owner of the domain name.

A complete organization validation provides more credibility and trust to your visitors, the more information you give them about who you are, the more confidence they will be to buy  or use your website.

A CSR or Certificate Signing Request is an encrypted text block that is normally generated on the server where the SSL certificate will be used, although it can also be generated externally, using specific tools. The CSR allows by means of information to encrypt the exclusive communication between a device or server with the issuer of the SSL certificate.

A certification authority will use a CSR to create its SSL certificate, but it does not need your private key. You need to keep your private key secret. The certificate created with a particular CSR will only work with the private key that was generated with it.
